About Fred
Fred is an AI assistant that actually works for you. Not a chat window. Not another app. An operator.
Why Fred exists
Fred started because I wanted an AI agent that worked for me 24/7. Something that could research, write, schedule tasks, and message me when something needed my attention. So I tried the most popular open-source option: OpenClaw.
It took hours to set up. You needed to know servers, the command line, Docker, Node.js. I'm a software developer, so I got it working. But even then, the costs were unpredictable, the behavior was unreliable, and a major security vulnerability affected thousands of instances. If you look on Reddit, you'll see the same story over and over: people who knew this technology could change how they work, but just couldn't get it to run properly.
So I built my own. Not a fork, not a wrapper. A ground-up rewrite designed to be fast, reliable, and secure. I built it for myself first. Then other people started asking if they could have their own. That's when Fred became a product.
What makes Fred different

Fred doesn't wait for you to ask. He monitors, he follows up, he messages you when something needs your attention. You set goals and Fred works toward them.

Every conversation, every preference, every decision. Fred builds a persistent understanding of how you work. The longer you use him, the less you have to explain.

Research, writing, scheduling, monitoring, code, automation. Fred doesn't hand you a draft to copy-paste. He sends the email, runs the workflow, does the follow-up.
He's entirely yours
Private server. Private data. Not shared with millions of other users. Not training someone else's model. Fully managed. One bill. Nothing to configure.
Built from scratch
Fred is not a wrapper around someone else's project. He's built from the ground up as custom software, written in Rust. That means fewer things that can break, better security, and a product that runs on minimal infrastructure.

Fred is built by a solo founder who believes the future of AI isn't another app. It's a personal AI that actually knows you, works for you, and gets better over time.
